P.J. Whelihans – West Chester

It’s been a while since a legitimate Nachojawn nacho review.

After a Nachojawn Jr. tournament game, we drove over to P.J. Whelihan’s in West Chester and ordered up the Wicked Chicken Nachos. These come with cheddar jack, queso, scallions, and chicken with your choice of sauces. I went with the signature Hot ‘N Honey.

These nachos were just a vehicle for the chicken, which wasn’t bad, but there are superior methods to transmit this type of chicken to your mouth. The shredded chicken was concentrated in the middle, there’s a whole pile of untopped chips there at the bottom right, and the nachos as a whole were lacking in toppings.

3.12/5 pickled jalapeños – Eat these in wing or tender form

Also, congrats to Nachojawn Jr. for the great season.

Teotihuacan, Tamales and Cocktails

We took a half-day trip out to Teotihuacan, an ancient city on the northern outskirts of Mexico City. It’s a standing subject of debate as to exactly who built this city, but the UNESCO Heritage site is incredible.

We had our driver drop us of at Tamales Doña Emi for some sweet and savory tamales in the Cuauhtemoc District.

I think we got a huitlacoche and a guava tamale. Moist but not greasy, these were great.img_4062img_4063

Heading back to the hotel, we enjoyed some well-constructed and aesthetically pleasing cocktails at Fifty Mills.

Mexico City – Cabrera 7

Nachojawn is back after a significant layoff. I’ve had some content in the pipelines and am going to do my best to get it out to you. We’re back to last summer’s Mexico City trip.

Sunday night in Mexico City sees a lot of restaurants closed – but after a night at lucha libre we walked over to Cabrera 7, off of Plaza Luis Cabrera in the Roma Norte district.

A Nachojawn favorite, the tampiqueña was decent. Mrs. Nachojawn had a molcajete with steak and nopales.

Not our favorite meal in the city, but nice views and a solid dinner after a great night out at Arena Mexico.
