You have to burn off those nachos somehow. This morning Nachojawn Jr. banged out a triathlon at Lake Nockmixon.
Happy National Tequila Day
Cantina Los Cabillitos
Honestly, this was the beginning of a long night back a few months ago and I kind of forgot that I had these pictures. Apologies for the quality.
Loyal readers of Nachojawn will remember that I was less than impressed with the nachos at Dos Segundos, the Cantina’s sister bar in Northern Liberties. These were way better.
They had all your standard toppings and it looks like we added steak to these, bumping them up to a hefty $16 price point. I’ve got a blurry picture of some $14 chicken nachos but they pretty much look the same.
We ended up, after a couple of other stops, at Stogie Joes.

As Promised – Whole Foods South Street – UPDATED
Loyal readers will remember the teaser photo of the nacho bar in the South Street Whole Foods. One Sunday night, while in the market picking up some food for a cookout, I couldn’t resist picking up some nachos too.
$4.99 for shredded beef nachos! Amazing deal. The cook griddled up the beef with the shredded cheese with a pretty sweet technique.
These were really good. They lacked layers, but transported pretty well and might be your best bang for the buck that Nachojawn has had so far.
4.33/5 pickled jalapeños – bring these to a friend’s bbq if you want to be a hero

UPDATE – See the blog post from earlier this week. This nacho bar no longer exists, which is a goddamn shame.

Guest Review – Bainbridge Street Barrel House
Nachojawn is happy to give a platform to anyone who appreciates nachos. With that said, here is the debut review from Señor Nacho y El Jefe de Nachos:
After a long day of moving, food was a must. Luckily for us, our new neighborhood has better food options and room for activities (and Nachojawn reviews)! Our first target was our closest beer serving neighbor, Bainbridge Street Barrel House. (Side note: go try the bacon beer—the best and worst beer of all time.) Because Little Miss Nachojawn wouldn’t let us live it down, we were obligated to get the Burachos Nachos with grilled chicken for much needed protein.
The dish was perfectly portioned as a starter, not too heavy and left plenty of room for the rest of our meals. However, there was too much sour cream (said no one before my co-author) and not enough melted cheddar cheese. In fact, we didn’t even realize that there was any melted cheddar cheese until we got through some of the sour cream and could see it sitting at the bottom of the plate.
Drum roll … good ‘welcome to the neighborhood’ nachos, but the Barrel House will be reserved for my beer and quizzo.

Sidecar Revisited
The Nachojawn family took a happy hour outing to Sidecar, home of one of the earliest Nachojawn reviews. Those were of the chorizo nachos, which I liked, but thought were missing that je ne sais quoi. How would the pork nachos, at $7 during happy hour, fare under the judgmental taste buds of the Nachojawns?
So, my main issue with the nachos still stands. There just isn’t enough going on there. What is there, however, is really good. The pulled pork, and there is a lot of it, is tasty, the pineapple salsa is good (but I need a little more than a ramekin of it), and the cheese is well-melted on the above-average chips..
For $7 at happy hour, you can’t go wrong. Those pretzel crusted chicken bites hiding in the top left corner are pretty sweet too.
Pulled Pork Nachos – 4.2/5 pickled jalapenos – Eat these with a half-priced Anderson Valley Blood Orange Gose with your family. It’s never to early, in the day or in life, for happy hour.
