Special Report – Night Market

Night Market set up shop for its year-end finale right around the corner from the new Nachojawn HQ. There was no excuse not to head over and see what Philly’s best food trucks had to offer

With a name like Nach-yo ball, we had to order one up.

Tasty, if a bit unconventional as a taco.

Big order of pork and chicken dumplings went down quickly.

Little Miss Nachojawn got her Mexican corn on a stick with queso fresco.

I’d heard good things about Poi Dog’s chicken katsu, and the bowl didn’t disappoint. I could keep popping these back as long as the fryer was working.

Best pastor tacos in the city from Philly Tacos, which used to be the original Taquitos de Puebla. Now reopened in Point Breeze.

LMN got her quesadilla with Oaxaca cheese.

That’s supposed to be Little Noodle. Someone had a few of their cocktails while making the sign.

This random dude made a really good brisket.

Room for arancini? Of course!

Top it all off with a root beer float. Night Market is awesome – see you next year!

Jake’s – Richboro, PA

We are in the heart of soccer season for Nachojawn Jr. and his Palumbo Panthers. The other weekend saw us up in Holland, PA and a thrilling 4-3 victory over the CRUSA Crushers

After the game we decided to watch the first half of the Eagles game somewhere local. We stumbled on Jake’s and their loaded fries.

Bonus points for the chili pepper pot holder.

Eagles won, fries were eaten, good time was had by all.

Return to Loco Pez

Loco Pez is where it all began for this blog, and the whole Nachojawn family returned with FON’s Los Corazones Buenos and Los Kenzos.

These were still pretty awesome. It took us a long time to get seated so Nachojawn was un poquito borracho by the time we ate. We were also squeezing 13 people into a booth that seated maybe 8.

Good times!

New Wave Cafe

Apologies for the dearth of posts lately. It’s been busy times in Nachojawn territory.

We’re back though, with another in the series featuring Nachojawn’s new neighborhood.

New Wave Cafe has been in Queen Village for almost as long as Nachojawn has been on this planet. Have they figured out how to make good nachos though?

Well, no, not really. I’m not convinced that there’s a homemade item on these. Industrial salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Cheez out of a jar. Not the strongest effort from a neighborhood mainstay.

Tipsy Taco

End of the summer means that it’s beach time for the Nachojawn family. There are a number of legit Mexican options at the shore – Tipsy Taco is not one.

These are the classic nachos – the chips are fresh, the guacamole is not, there’s nothing fancy going on here.

There’s decent layering, but not much flavor, a theme that carried over to the tacos. They serve up a gringo taco with ground beef that had a distinct lack of seasoning. On the plus side, there was a decent salsa verde and fresh pico de gallo to try and punch it up.

Fitzwater Cafe

As part of the new Queen Village relocation of Nachojawn, we headed out to the Fitzwater Cafe before picking up Nachojawn Jr. from overnight camp.

On the specials list were breakfast nachos, so that made ordering easy.

First note – that is a LOT of sour cream. Also, I understand that there is not a lot of Mexican food coming out of the kitchen, but you could have picked a better tortilla chip. And final criticism – the eggs were cooked a little too well-done for me.

With that said, I crushed these. The salsa verde, andouille sausage and avocado combination was great.

Qdoba Primetime Nachos

These are the spicy chicken nachos. Grilled chicken, fajita veggies, beans, pico de gallo, queso, sour cream, and jalapeños allegedly pickled in house in a citrus marinade.

I ate them all. God bless nachos.
