Fergie’s

If you’ve ever had a beer in Philadelphia, chances are you’ve drank at one of Fergie’s bars.

Nachojawn and friends were treated to these nachos by Fergie at a dads’ happy hour for Nachojawn Jr.’s school.

Fergie’s Deluxe Nachos feature corn chips topped with refried beans, jack & cheddar cheeses, pico de gallo, jalapeños, sour cream, shredded lettuce, guacamole and veggie chili.

I’m forgoing an official pickled jalapeños rating on these for fear that my rating could be tainted by the fact that the food was comped. If there is one thing that the Nachojawn brand stands for, it’s complete transparency and ethics in nacho journalism

I will say that my favorite food at one of Fergie’s places is the Kelly Burger with blackened green beans at Grace Tavern.

No Nacho Content – Animo Juice/Burrito

Way back in 2013, Animo Juice opened up in the ground floor of the old Robert Morris Building at 17th and Arch. I never stopped in until recently.

Animo Juice’s whole deal is that they claim to offer nutritious food made with high-quality ingredients. Their sour cream is low-fat, their pinto beans and brown rice are organic, and their meats are certified humanely raised on a vegetarian diet with no added hormones or antibiotics. But do they taste good?

Eh. I got a chicken burrito that came with the aforementioned healthy ingredients, wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla.  It was fresh if not overly flavorful, and  definitely a bit lighter than your standard food bomb, but it was missing that Mexican, how do you say it, je ne sais quoi?

Anyway, if you want a wheatgrass shot and a “mission-style” burrito around the Comcast Center, stop in.

North Carolina Beach Nachos

This “tell-tale review” comes to us from Wrightsville Beach, NC where the nachos are described as “poetry on a plate”.

poes

“Sure, my cat could sprinkle triangle chips with cheese, throw them into a microwave, and call them “nachos.” In other words, it’s pretty hard to screw up nachos. It’s equally challenging to create memorable nachos. Poe’s: Ya done did it! Edgar’s Nachos are a mound of multicolored tortilla chips, layered with a generous amount of creamy Jack cheese, savory homemade chili, pico de gallo, tangy guacamole, and spicy jalapeños. I’m not saying Poe’s reinvented the wheel on this one, but they certainly dished out a solid app. The generous starter is made for sharing but could easily be a meal for one. The “drunken chili” (deeply colored and slightly sweet) came with finely ground meat, for slightly less spillage, and a hint of hoppy tang.”
