Your Nachos Intrigue Me
The Kansas City Star, recognizing the importance of nachos to America, published this article/recipe today.
Crack the code to the perfect at-home nacho
They actually look pretty dope. Anyone want to make these and invite Nachojawn over?
Cornell Reunion Nachos
There’s a diploma from Cornell University hanging up in Nachojawn HQ, and Mr. and Mrs. Nachojawn headed up the other weekend for Cornell Reunion. We had booked a place describing itself as a “Rustic Bohemian Treehouse” located on Lake Cayuga for us and two other couples.
And after a leisurely afternoon on the Finger Lakes Wine Trail, we fired up the toaster oven to make some nachos from Wegman’s purchased ingredients. Here’s the result:
Blue corn chips, Tostitos salsa, colby jack cheese, sour cream, black beans and fresh avocado on top. I kept my nose out of the ingredient purchasing, but it is a decent lineup, save for the salsa. If you’re foregoing the meat, you gotta get a little more interesting with your flavor profile.
The toaster oven did a good job heating up the nachos, the avocado was perfectly ripe, and I don’t think there was a leftover chip on the two trays.

Not usually too hard to talk someone into nachos.
RIP Jose’s Mexican
Never got a chance to review Jose’s, which was a little hole in the wall with some damn good Mexican food. They’ve shuttered up, without notice. Sad day.
Also, thanks to the visitors in 12 different countries who have made Nachojawn the preeminent Philadelphia nacho blog. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you.

On a rainy night, Nachojawn Jr.’s Little League team hit the batting cages at 5th and Girard. I took this as an opportunity to take Little Miss Nachojawn just a block away for some nacho sampling.
These are the Nachos Especiales, although I’m not entirely sure what makes them so especial. Pretty basic stuff here — melted cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and some jalapenos. But they were fresh and hot and hit the spot while the Taney Jungle Cats took some batting practice.

On one of the busiest corners in Center City, a taqueria has popped up in what used to be a frozen yogurt shop. The decor remains the same, and it was slow to catch on, but they seemed to be doing a pretty good business when I stopped in for lunch.
I got the Mexican Nachos with beef picadillo. Picadillo is a pretty underrated filler/topping. Usually you’re going to get ground beef cooked with guajillo peppers, garlic, and lime. I’ve gotten raisins and potatoes sometimes too.
You can see the sour cream, guacamole, pickeld jalapeños, cheese and pico de gallo.
Where these nachos were lacking was in the chip quality, unfortunately. I think they were underfried, meaning they didn’t have that snap to them, and instead had a little chew. Not what you’re looking for, and it really hurts the dish as a whole.

What’s a Jawn
This blog can’t be all nachos and no jawns, so for a hot take on jawns, here’s an article on whether a guy can be a jawn.

They’re not all going to be works of art. Sometimes you’ll be out in the suburbs and this is what you will end up with.
Chips, pinto beans, chicken, 3-cheese queso, some more cheese, guacamole, “roasted” chile corn salsa, and maybe some other salsas hiding under there.
All I remember is that I was full after eating these. It was better than not eating them.
