Mexico City – Licoria Limontour

Mexico City never ends. Luckily, Uber was cheap, reliable, and got us around. While we liked walking around neighborhoods, the scope of the city is incredible. Located in Bosque de Chapultapec, the Museo Nacional de Antropologia mirrors the city in its sprawling nature.

This is the original Aztec sun stone. In the center is the sun god, holding a human heart in each hand, with his tongue replaced by a sacrificial knife.

After that, it was time for a cocktail at one of Mexico City’s original cocktail bars. Licoria Limontour, in the Roma neighborhood. img_3850img_6099

Madison, WI – The Old Fashioned

La familia Nachojawn spent a lovely weekend in Madison, Wisconsin towards the end of the summer.

Pizzeria Uno – Oaks, PA

The Nachojawn family was lucky to get tickets to the Cirque de Soleil show Volta out in Oaks, PA. Our first dinner choice had a wait, so Mrs. Nachojawn made the fateful call to try Pizzeria Uno.

In her words, “As bad as these look, they taste worse.”

These were not very good. Poor melting, sub-optimal chili and general yuck.

The carrots on the plate were probably the best thing we ate.

1.24/5 pickled jalapeños – eat pizza if you ever have to go to Pizzeria Uno.

Hot Tamales

In no way authentic Mexican foot, Hot Tamales serves cheap, pretty bland Mexican food to the office workers of Center City Philadelphia.

These are the $3.59 Supreme nachos. with beef, refried beans, tomatoes, and cheese from a three-gallon can.

I remember going to Hot Tamales 15 years ago. Somehow it survives and seems to draw a regular lunch crowd. I guess there is an unmet demand for Mexican lunch options.

Mexico City – Street Eats

There is so much street food in Mexico City that I can’t believe they can all stay in business. I guess with 25 million in the metropolitan area, you’ve got a big clientele.

In short, Nacho Cheese Doritos, which are then topped with a variety of ingredients: cueritos (pickled pork rinds), small batons of jicama, cubed cucumber, grated carrots, peanuts (most often described by the vendors as japonés,the ones with the crunchy, soy sauce-flavored shell), gummy bears, lime juice, chili powder,  hot sauce, and chamoy.

Restorante Nicos – Mexico City

A bit off the beaten path, on the corner of a row of stores is Restorante Nicos, Eater’s best restaurant in the city.

Our first day in Mexico City we took an Uber for our lunch reservation.

Your first impression at every restaurant in Mexico is from their salsas. Nicos had a nice chipotle salsa to go with the their verde.
