Blue Route Taco Truck – Plymouth Meeting

The Whole Foods at Plymouth Meeting parked a food truck on its roof, and they turn out some pretty decent food. Last year they served up margaritas as well, but they’re gone for some reason, and you’ll have to make due with beer.

Blue Route

On a sunny spring afternoon, my wife and I both got some nachos for the cause.

Carnitas nachos with pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole and queso. Habanero pineapple salsa on the side. You just check boxes for what toppings you want, and it all works out in the end.

Fish nachos

Fish nachos

Fish nachos with corn salsa, queso, cilantro and probably some other stuff. The fish was good, but a little unwieldy as a nacho topping.

Best supermarket nachos I’ve ever had – the rooftop taco truck is straight up good. Just be careful that you don’t check off too many boxes, can’t be drowning those chips. Happy eating.

Guest Post – El Vez

Our first guest post is bound to generate a lot of controversy. While I have eaten El Vez’s nachos many, many times, they are due for an official visit. Guest Reviewer DK beat me to the punch with this scalding take. The following guest review does not represent the official opinion of Nachojawn:

Nacho YAWN

The Nachos Mama at El Vez were uneventful.  The boring (and too thick) pieces of chips were served on a pizza tray.  If this was intended to be a nod to the “cantina experience’, it was lost on me.  That I was reminded of matzo while eating nachos speaks volumes.  The toppings were standard fare – I’ve done better with bagged chips, jarred salsa, and pre-shredded cheese from the supermarket.

For a completely different perspective, my husband thought they were delicious.  Neither of us were wow’ed by the shrimp tacos.

The highlight of the meal was a superbly concocted glass of limeade.  I guess they had nowhere to go but down.

The Cambridge

These are the Layered Three Bean Nachos at the Cambridge. We got them with chicken, which was a mistake. Pretty sure they just chopped up the marinated chicken that they put on their chicken sandwich. It’s got a marinade that doesn’t fit the dish. Bad form, Cambridge.

Cambridge

They look really good, and they were good heavy chips that stood up to the toppings without getting soggy. Those toppings included Three Bean Chili, Cheddar, Fontina, Sharp Provolone, Salsa Verde, Pico de Gallo, Citrus Crema, and Pickled Jalapeño. These were the best things we ate at the Cambridge, which wasn’t as good as I remembered, although there is still a solid tap list. I had an Anderson Valley gose on a nice Friday afternoon with the windows open.

Whole Foods Plymouth Meeting Revisited

After a serious round of mini golf, the Nachojawn family headed up to the roof of the Plymouth Meeting Whole Foods for a revisit. The official review should be up in a couple weeks.

These are really good. But don’t take my word for it. Here’s Nachojawn Jr.

 And Little Miss Nachojawn

Like I said in my original review, there is no better place to eat nachos on a roof that I know of.

Scottsdale – Spotted Donkey

These are less nachos than they are a vehicle for the pulled pork that constitutes a majority of the topping. We closed out our week long trip to Arizona with a dinner at the Spotted Donkey and their Donkey Nachos.

SpottedDonkeyNot your traditional presentation, you cant really even see the chips under there, and the ones that are there are whole tortillas. The double spoon technique worked well to scoop up the pulled pork, serrano chile roasted tomatoes, tomatillos, cheeses queso fresco, black beans, and mexican créma.

Not your everyday nacho, but the pork was tender and everything worked well together. Eating them with a couple Herradura margaritas was a great end to the trip, and closes this chapter of Arizona nacho reviews.
