Modern Margarita – Scottsdale

More Arizona nachos – these are the chicken nachos from Modern Margarita.

Modern MargaritaThese are some really good nachos. House made chips, queso, pico de gallo, chicken and crema on a big plate. These got absolutely housed by our crew. The cheese sauce was stellar, great topping distribution, and the chips didn’t get soggy.

Washed down with a habanero margarita, these were winners.

4.7/5 pickled jalapenos – eat these at happy hour when you work in a Scottsdale office park.

Mole Poblano

I’ve never had the nachos here, but that’s only because the tamales are so good.

Nachojawn Jr and I stopped in for a little brunch after his art class on a Saturday morning. We ordered a verde and a mole tamale, with a couple of sidrals (apple cider soda).
At $2.50 each, there’s not a better bang for your buck in the city. Both of these have chicken filing, but there’s a Rojo with pork that’s great, as well as a rajas and maybe another. But I don’t mess with what’s not broken.
Nachojawn Jr. gives these a full 5/5 pickled jalapeños.

Distrito

Five bucks. That’s all these nachos are at Distrito during lunch.

DistritoThe Nachos Ignacio are vegetarian, and have those tiny radishes that let you know that these are fancy nachos. Broiled in the cast iron pan, these nachos were maybe 15 seconds overdone, but I didn’t hate the char on those chips you see on the edge. Big thumbs up for the dish and the value.

This was a lunch after which I didn’t head back to work, so I had a couple Grande Diablo’s with my lunch. I’m a sucker for spicy cocktails. The Grande Diablo is chile infused tequila, maraschino liqueur and grapefruit. Good stuff.

Chicken Tostadas – my house

The Nachojawn family cooks Plated 2-3 times per week. If you’re not familiar, you order meals online, the ingredients are sent to you, and you do the cooking.

Cinco de Mayo week offered some good Mexican options. Tonight we made these.

it’s 85 degrees here, so I  whipped up some blackberry margaritas too

The tostadas had a roasted tomato onion salsa, ground chicken, refried beans, vocado lime crema, cabbage, queso fresco and jalapeños. And yeah, I fried my own tortillas.

No official rating on these, but they were dope.

Scottsdale – Ocotillo Grill

Every spring break the Nachojawn family heads out west to Arizona. It’s a great opportunity to eat some nachos and drink a faceload of margaritas.

We eat almost all of our lunches at the poolside restaurant – and Eduardo the  chef was kind enough to go off menu for these nachos. With a days notice he even made some homemade cheese sauce that was the highlight of these nachos.

While the individual components of the nachos were great, they never really came together for a cohesive dish. The carne asada, guacamole and salsas were first class – but the   hot fresh chips aren’t the most conducive for nachos.

Still, you can’t really beat being on vacation and eating nachos for lunch.
